J'aime Mon Carré I

This past weekend, MP and I went off to Tulsa in search of art.   While I expected to be happy during my first visit to  the Philbrook Museum (one of the top 50 museums in the country), I didn't expect to be overjoyed.  Surprise!  Not only was a stunning Rauschenberg print exhibit hanging in the temporary space, the grounds were beautiful.  23 acres of manicured gardens, complete with tempietto.   We immediately signed up for a membership, and I anticipate returning twice a month or more.  Afterward we stopped by a commercial gallery recommended by a colleague of MP (another place to submit work), and we hit up Whole Foods before heading home.

This weekend holds a bit more socializing for us, as the first faculty get together (with spouses/significant others) happens tonight.  I'll be wearing J'aime mon carré--perhaps as a belt/sash or as a bag.  For the trip to the Philbrook, I wore it as a headband (see above), and it leant some fun to an otherwise simple outfit.  Perhaps this pink scarf will see even more use than I originally thought.

I hope you have fun weekend plans!

  1. You look so great. You know me, I am stuck at the scarf and the bag! Woo-hoo! I hope you will share more pictures of the scarf with us, especially if you turn it into a bag this weekend.

  3. Jill,

Thanks! This is becoming a favorite outfit of mine, and I love how the Jige works so well for a whole day out.

I will certainly share more pictures if I use it tonight. I'm starting to think about the outfit, and wearing it as a sash might be perfect.

    Bienchen,

I showed MP your comment. He laughed and nodded--he's been wanting to do more action shots, but I thought they looked awkward. So thanks for letting me know they are not only appreciated but desired!

  4. I know you know this but you're missing an "E" at J'aime.

  5. Fabulous and so whimsical - you are rocking this carre! I am envious of your Jige - perhaps I may weaken for one - but the I would have a hard time deciding on color! Bienchen is right - your outfit is very flattering to your tiny waist! Baby shower and going back to school parties for us this weekend! I will have a reveal to share as well!

  7. I can't get over how great that top looks on you. I haven't seen this before. Is it new?

You have the smallest waist of anyone I know....you lucky girl.

Have a fun weekend. We have a couple social events to attend, as well. I get to wear my cowboy boots and huge rhinestone belt tonight to a farm auction at a local winery. Yee haw!

  8. That wrap top you're wearing is beautiful.

  9. Anon,

Thanks so much for the correction! I have a habit of not checking titles too carefully--something I'll make a point to fix! :)

    Lanit,

A reveal? Perhaps the ultra-special one? Whatever it is, I know it will be gorgeous--I can't wait to see. Have a beautiful time at your parties and showers.

By the way, I love the Jige. I can see "multiples." :)

    Lily,

Thank you. This top is one of my best finds ever! Anne Fontaine, mais bien sûr.

  10. Adrienne,

Yes (wink)--it's fairly new, just not photographed before. It was one of the three pieces of clothes I bought these past two months when on that "ban"--I couldn't pass it up. Anne Fontaine is too tempting! Especially ones with ties.

Have a fabulous time at your farm auction. I should hunt those down here! Or not. :)

    PaP P,

    Thank you!

  12. Perfection! I'd also love to see more photos of the scarf. It makes a great head band.

  15. Lovely look, and I love your scarf-in-hair touches, they are perfect pops of color/art, especially with a neutral outfit, and I'm voting also for more action shots. Cute waist you have!
Oh, and FYI, as promised a chino report: I'm LOVING my Land's End Canvas "Rail Straight" chinos in French Walnut, and I'm NOT a chino lover. Had to reorder (free returns) a size smaller than my usual, but these are extraordinary: long, slimming, rich camel color, great fabric, small pockets. Had to take in the waist (hour glass club members take note), but that's normal for me. They are perfect summer-into-fall pants.

  16. P.S. C., I just got finished baking Madeline's ..your recipe...so yum...but mine are brown on one side and yellow on the other. Are they supposed to look like this? Hurricane is making it's way up the coast so while the winds are blowing outside I thought I would spoil DH with these. I actually like the crunchiness of the top. VO, yes you are welcome over.

PSS. Jill 815, I hope you do not get hit to hard by the hurricane and it slows down before it reaches New York. Stay safe!

  17. Major envy going on here: what a tiny, tiny waist! And I am also in envy of your thick, thick hair. I know J'aime mon carré is a 70cm, but you've worn 90cm in your hair, too, which I cannot do. They always, always fall out. (sniff, sniff) Love the new top, too and how the necklace from India compliments the stitching of the top.
Please do not carry your new scarf as a bag. You know how wound up I get over that issue. Stains, snags...very stressful to watch! But I'm thinking this might be a heads-up sort of thing, and I'll do extra yoga today - just in case.
(clapping, clapping) over the museum! Yea! Yea! I'm so happy that you are finding things that make you happy. Big hug. This is the best news of the day! The place sounds gorgeous on many levels - inside and outside.
Have fun with the socializing this weekend. (We're heading to Vancouver today. You know what that means - H stop!)

  18. The Slowest Sewist,

The exhibit was so very good, I nearly cried. AND their next big exhibit is a collection of works from the Speed Art Museum--my childhood museum from Louisville, KY. I'm ELATED! That museum "saved" me in so many ways. Tulsa is showing me her full colors, and I'm liking it!

    Susan,

Will do--I will share more as I wear it. This scarf makes clear that sometimes the "fun" option is the best way to go.

    Sandra,

The Warhol Museum? Oh, let's meet there if at all possible! Wouldn't that be fabulous, fabulous?

You are having an enviable weekend--I send you the best of vibes for work and for play!

  19. Jeanne,

You take care! I don't want a hurricane to disrupt this lead up to Paris and France--no, it must pass you by without a hair's turn. (You hear me, hurricane?)

Yum, yum, madeleines. I got more eggs so to make them again soon. About the color, tell me: Do you use a nonstick pan or one that requires butter? The latter should turn the cakes that delicious brown. I have the nonstick version, alas, something I plan to change when I get pans in Paris.

But if you were using nonstick and/or the brown side was the "top" side (while in the oven), then I don't think that should happen. The only time that happened for me, the oven temperature was off 100F. Possible? Or, you can cut back on the cooking time. Here in Oklahoma, my cooking time is much less.

  20. V.O,

More action shots it is! (MP is going to love this, he's been pestering me to move more. Show a photographer the Sartorialist and he goes CRAZY.)

Your pants sound incredible--I have to try! There's a LE at the outlet mall (I think) on the other side of OKC, so I can maybe try them out. I'm starting to find my own chino "find" more and more lackluster each time I wear them. Tailored ones sound marvelous.

    C.S.,

I am falling so much in love with Tulsa! I can't wait for the temperatures to lower a bit so MP and I can wander the museum's beautiful grounds. I will be showing so many pictures from there. I'll have to dress up!

And I will ease your worry (and anyone else's) by announcing that I've decided to wear the scarf as a sash. I'm not sure how it will look, but I'm trying it! So, no need for more yoga!

  21. I see that you've lived up to your promise to include more art-related news. Enjoy the get-together!

  22. *sigh* So wish I could swap body with you. I guess it's back to Tracy Anderson mat DVD when I get home later this week. I've always wished I could wear the scarf like a headband. I've got a round face and I can never make it look flattering on me.

  23. Thanks C., I believe it is my oven. I will reduce the heat. My pan is a nonstick and I really like this one because the Madeleines just slide right out and I barely have to clean it...I am such a slacker. The brown was on the bottom...but they were crunchy and so delish.

  24. Have fun at the get together! I always love seeing pictures of that clutch and I am looking forward to seeing all the ways you wear the lovely scarf!

  25. I haven't figured out how to wear the scarf as headband because of my rounder face shape.

I'm doing my budget for 2012, and I would like to include one H scarf each year. I have a couple now that I'm not wearing often because of the heat, but I always leave your site inspired by how you are incorporating chic outfits in 100+ weather.

  26. Your waist is so tiny. Adore that top paired with the relaxed jeans and necklace. Have a sweet weekend;-)

  27. Michelle,

With this membership, I'll be writing about art much more often! I hope you'll enjoy.

    CC&C,

You are too kind. I call it the "Oklahoma diet"--move to Oklahoma, and I swear you will lose weight.

Yes, I can see that a round face shape can make the headband look a bit difficult to pull off. But thankfully there are so many more ways to wear scarves! That's what's so marvelous about them.

    Jeanne,

Great pans! I want! I have to fiddle with them a bit to get the cakes out, but they wash up really well--as long as I do them. I tend to be terrified that my pans will be scratched. All my other cookware is going downhill fast for some reason, but those Madeleine pans better be A.OK!

  28. Katherine,

Thank you--it was a great evening.

    Rebekah,

That's a wonderful goal, and I hope your 2012 lets the fun begin! The great thing about an Hermès scarf is that it NEVER goes out of style--it only becomes retro and even cooler. I love mine so very much.

    F,A&OF,

Thank you! You have a great weekend, too.
